South Beach Wine & Food Festival’s Fun and Fit as a Family

Jungle Island Invites Whole Family to Savor

Badia Spices’ Fun and Fit as a Family
Sponsored by Carnival Featuring Goya Foods Kidz Kitchen

~Join favorite celebrity chefs & culinary personalities for food, fun and health on Feb. 27 & 28, 2016~

MIAMI, Fla. (February 2016) – Back by popular demand, Jungle Island, South Florida’s favorite landmark attraction, announces the ninth annual Badia Spices’ Fun and Fit as a Family sponsored by Carnival featuring Goya Foods Kidz Kitchen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 27 & 28, 2016. Produced by the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE, this year’s family-friendly affair provides kids with more opportunities than ever before to interact with their favorite celebrity chefs and culinary personalities, prepare healthy dishes from start to finish, and engage in physical activity while enjoying fresh air in a lush jungle-like setting. Not to mention, the $20 per person advanced purchase ticket price makes this extraordinary experience affordable and accessible to all.

In the Serpentarium, children get up-close-and-personal with an impressive group of chefs and culinary talent during demonstrations held each day at the Goya Foods Kidz Kitchen. Favorite culinary personalities, including Duff Goldman, Robert Irvine, Eddie Jackson, Rev Run & Justine Simmons, and Andrew Zimmern, return once again to show families just how easy it is to prepare meals that are delicious and nutritious.

“This is, without a doubt, my single favorite demo of the year — not just this year, not last year, but year in and year out. And here’s the reason why: There are so many people who are too far-gone or already have opinions that are set about food and how it should be cooked. But kids come into this world tabula rasa and there’s a disconnect between children and their parents,” says Zimmern, host of Travel Channel series Bizarre Foodsand Festival veteran. “Parents feel that their children won’t eat healthy, well-cooked food, and that they are picky eaters. Kids are not designed genetically or predisposed in any way psychologically to dislike food, in fact, quite the opposite. So for me, it’s the perfect laboratory to come in, have fun with the kids and their families, and teach people that great food is something everyone can enjoy.”

Kids, ages six and up, also have the opportunity to experiment with the major food groups in the Interactive Food Lab, taught by several talented chefs. The 2016 Food Lab chefs include Lorenzo Boni of Barilla America, Jungle Island’s Executive Chef Mark Borowski, and local favorites Adrianne Calvo of Chef Adrianne’s and Panda Kitchens, Todd Erickson of Haven South Beach and Huahua’s Taqueria, Dewey LoSasso from Schnebly Winery and Miami Brewing Co., and Dena Marino from MC Kitchen.

“The opportunity to change the mindset of kids and their parents and also promote healthier eating habits is truly what makes Fun and Fit as a Family an extraordinary event,” says Mark Borowski, Jungle Island’s executive chef and former sous chef for Food Network’s Robert Irvine. “We’re proud to partner again with the South Beach Wine & Food Festival® and to have Jungle Island serve as the backdrop for such a memorable occasion that is ideal for families in search of affordable and educational entertainment.”

Jungle Island's natural environment, animal exhibits as well as unique physical fitness activities including blender bike smoothie challenges provided by Florida International University, keep the entire family active at the attraction’s Garden Outpost and private beach. Parents and kids get to enjoy additional activities and healthy food samples around the park thanks to sponsors including Badia Spices, Baptist Health South Florida, Barilla, Body Preference, Books & Books, Carnival Cruise Lines, Chef Works, Cooking Channel, The Education Effect, Florida International University Wellness and Recreation, Food Network, Goya Foods, Jungle Island, KIND Snacks, KitchenAid®, Lifeway®, McDonald’s, Metro Signs, Miami-Dade County, Navitas Naturals, Panda Kitchen and Bath, Shipt, and TSJ Fitness.
